Vivian Cobbs-Turenne Obituary

Let me take you way back to May 5, 1947 when Vivian Delores Cobbs was born. She was raised in the Charleston and North Charleston area by the late Rosa Mae Jones-Cobbs and Odoner Cobbs Sr. Often known by her middle name Lores.

From a young age, she was always a take charge person. She was known by her father as ‘boss lady’. Lores grew up in the church and at an early age found Christ. A member of Greater Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church she was a member of Stewardess Board #1, the Gilliard-Miller WMS, the Upper North Charleston and Surrounding Areas Hub and was a member of Class #8.

Lores graduated from Bonds Wilson High School in 1968. She was a black panther, marched in civil rights movements, and was involved in boycotts and sit ins. Lores retired from MUSC and The Coastal Center but her love of taking care of people wouldn’t let her keep still so she returned to work at The Coastal Center for many years after her retirement.

Lores was a loving, kind hearted, humble, and judge-free woman. Lores was the epitome of a God fearing woman that relied on God to answer her prayers.

Vivian was preceded in death by her son Lamar Cobbs and siblings Willie James Freeman, Odoner Cobbs Jr, Shirley Ann Nimmons, and Marvin Cobbs.

She is survived by her husband Innocent “Tony” Turenne; siblings Walton Cobbs, Spavera Walton, Robert Cobbs and Marvette Simmons; children Shondell Cobbs, Lyndell Hester(I’sadore Hester Sr), Gregory Cobbs; grandchildren Tiffany Cobbs, Wayne Hester, La’Kita Edwards(Reggie Edwards Sr), Breeona Cobbs, Brandon Cobbs, Tra-Asha Cobbs, Isadore Hester, Ty Scroggins, Gregory Cobbs Jr; great grandchildren TiQuan Harris, Precious Cobbs, Kaidynce Doctor, Zayden Cobbs, Brianna Richardson, Micah Scroggins, and Brooklyn Richardson a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special cousin/best friend Oclelia Smalls.
