On April 7, 1947, The late John Harvie and Willie Mae Hatcher started their family welcoming a beautiful baby girl they named Mary Nell Hatcher.

After graduation, she continued her education at Band Beauty College in Charlotte, NC becoming a licensed beautician. She watched children throughout the community and became a mother figure to many.
Mernell started her love for Christ at an early age. She joined Mallalieu Jones United Methodist church where she served on many organizations until her health declined. She was also faithful visiting other churches in the surrounding Areas. She adopted Bishop Givens from Abundant Life Ministries to become her Bishop whom she loved dearly until the end.
