Edward Chambers Obituary

In the heart of Michigan, on the 2nd day in September 1967, a remarkable soul by the name of Edward Dewayne Chambers made his entrance into the world. Little did anyone know that his journey through life would be nothing short of extraordinary, a testament to the transformative power of education, the nurturing of young minds, and the indelible impact one can leave on the field of learning.

As a child, Edward's footsteps echoed through the hallowed halls of the Detroit Public School System, where he embarked on a lifelong romance with knowledge. Here, amidst the bustling classrooms and the pages of countless textbooks, he forged the bedrock of his intellectual curiosity. It was in these very classrooms that he planted the seeds of his insatiable appetite for learning, a passion that would accompany him throughout his life.

Edward's educational odyssey reached its first milestone with his graduation from Cooley High School. The values instilled in him during his formative years in Detroit, values of hard work, resilience, and an unwavering appreciation for education, laid the groundwork for the remarkable journey that lay ahead.

With dreams as vast as the open skies, Edward set his sights on new horizons, and his path led him southward to Philander Smith College in the heart of Little Rock, Arkansas. Here, he embarked on a profound academic expedition, a journey of self-discovery and enlightenment. His years at Philander Smith College were not only a testament to his intellectual growth but also a testament to his widening horizons and a deepening sense of purpose.

While at Philander Smith College, April 5, 1987, held special significance. It marked the day when Edward became a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., forever uniting him with a brotherhood that would shape his life in countless ways. His commitment to the fraternity was unwavering, and he went on to become a Life Member, actively participating at both the District and Regional levels. In 2013, he became the primary advisor for the Gamma Pi Chapter at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina, influencing the lives of young men who would go on to become exemplary citizens across the United States. Edward was also a vital part of the Alpha Psi Lambda Chapter, where he led the chapter's mentoring program, Young Pharaohs until his health began to decline. In addition, he served as the regional and district representative for the Leadership Development Citizenship Education Initiative, a program aimed at equipping high school students with invaluable leadership skills.

Edward's commitment to education knew no bounds. Fueled by an insatiable thirst for knowledge, he continued his academic journey at Andrews University, where he earned a Master's Degree, sealing his reputation as a devoted scholar and an inspirational educator.

Throughout his illustrious career, Edward etched his mark on the education landscape. As the English Department Chair at Columbia High School, his innovative teaching methods and unwavering dedication left an indelible legacy. His leadership was equally palpable during his tenure as a teacher at Meadow Woods Middle School and the Dean of Students at Palmetto Elementary School, where he molded young minds and hearts with compassion and care.

Edward's influence extended far beyond the walls of his classrooms. He took on the role of Curriculum & Instruction Specialist at Teach for America, contributing to the noble mission of transforming education for underserved communities. His passion for education and his unwavering dedication to his students was equally evident during his tenure as a teacher at Orange County Public Schools (Freedom High School) and Southern Vance High School, where his commitment to his students and his passion for the subject of English shone as brightly as a guiding star.

But Edward was more than just a dedicated educator; he was a devoted son, a passionate mentor, and a cherished friend. His heartwarming sense of humor, profound wisdom, and boundless kindness brought joy and solace to all fortunate enough to cross his path. His unwavering support and encouragement served as a boundless source of inspiration to countless individuals throughout his life.

Edward's journey through life was deeply influenced by the presence of his beloved family. As he embarks on his eternal rest, he reunites with those who preceded him in death: his cherished mother, Sandra Chambers McClain, and his loving father, Edward Huff, along with his tender and nurturing grandmother, Ella Wee Dade. Together, they have forged a path ahead, leaving behind a profound legacy of love and enduring familial bonds.

It is clear that Edward was deeply connected to his family, and they played a significant role in his life. His beloved aunts, Deborah Chambers and Loretta Smith, provided him with unwavering love and support throughout his journey, serving as cornerstones of his life. Alongside them, his two devoted uncles, Gerald Chambers and David Chambers, were also important figures in his life, likely contributing to his growth and development.

Additionally, Edward had two cousins, Darrell Chambers and Benjamin Chambers, who grew up as brothers.
